The RPM160 is the latest pod mod from the well-known vape manufacture SMOK. It is an updated version of the original RPM80 with a more powerful output and a couple of design upgrades. The SMOK RPM line of products has become very popular with a range of pod systems. They have been excellent devices and pioneered the way for solid performance and easy operation.
The SMOK RPM160 is a dual 18650 pod mod that’s capable of 160 watts. It takes a large 7.5ml pod with replaceable mesh coils for DTL vape. I was surprised something really big to come out of the box. It was a powerhouse that promised to incredibly versatile and simple to use.
I have reviewed RPM40, RPM80 in the past. The SMOK RPM160 Kit is up for review today and since I have never really been disappointed by the SMOK RPM series, I have to say that my expectations were very high. It is attractive and looks like it wants to be vaped!

Build Quality and Design of SMOK RPM160
I received the red unit and I was impressed from the moment I unboxed it. It looks so gorgeous and huge! I am not taking huge in general, I mean it is larger than other SMOK pod vapes I have tested. It comes in a zinc alloy frame with a sleek and metallic finish. The finish seems unlikely to scratch or lose its luster but it attracts fingerprint easily. The RPM160 mod comes with its pod section assembled and stands at 125mm x 45mm x 28.2mm. It is tall, hefty, rounded, and ergonomic that I was excited to hold it. It feels heavier in hands with the dual 18650 batteries, which can be expected. The rectangular shape is ergonomic with two flattened sides. Your fingertips will fit nicely when you hold the RPM160 Mod.
Looking into the top of the mod, you will see two gold-plated connectors and two strong magnets. There are two ample airflow slots on the top section of the mod. The hinged battery door at the bottom holds two 18650 batteries firmly. Sadly, I didn’t find any battery venting holes on the mod. The large fire button and a combined up and down adjustment button are well placed on the front panel. The 0.96-inch TFT screen is bright and clear in any light. The micro-USB port at the base of the mod is used for charging and firmware upgrade. The branding SMOK and model name are printed on the front and rear panels respectively. The overall build quality is top-notch. It may not be certified rugged but mine has survived a few accidental falls without a scratch.
SMOK RPM160 Pod Cartridge and Coils
The SMOK RPM160 pod cartridge is held in place by two strong magnets tightly. You have to remove it from the mod with a solid tug. The integrated 510 drip tip is comfortable between lips. The pod holds 7.5ml of e-liquid and features an easy press-fit manner. The coil simply slides and clicks in. The filling port with a rubber plug sits at the back of the pod. You can easily fill the pod without pulling it out of the mod, which is awesome! The port is very generous which can accommodate all bottle droppers. The RPM160 pod is clear, I can easily view the juice level at a bright place.
The kit comes with two 0.15ohm mesh coils. SMOK claimed that the coil with honeycomb structure is made of nickel-chrome that ensures for more evenly and quickly heating. You do need to empty the pod before changing the coil. According to SMOK official website, the RPM160 RDTA Pod is coming soon. It holds 5.5ml e-juice and is easy to build. I highly recommend you have a try.
How to Fill the SMOK RPM160 Pod:
- Remove the rubber plug at the back of the pod to reveal the filling port
- Fill the pod with your desired e-liquid
- Close the rubber plug tightly
Getting Started: Vaping the SMOK RPM160
The SMOK RPM160 is a button-operated device. It is very easy to use with a few features. Five clicks of the fire button turn it on and off. You can also lock the vaping functions by pressing the fire button three times. Holding down the adjustment buttons at the same time to lock the wattage. Press the fire button and the Down button to clear the puff counter. The puff counter maxes out at 999.
On the front, the large TFT screen displays the two battery levels at the top, wattage, resistance, puff counter, and timer. The two adjustment buttons allow you to set your wattage from 5W to 160W in 1-watt increment. The smart IQ-160 chipset provides ultra-fast firing speed at 0.001s and ensures multiple safety features.
Performance of SMOK RPM160:
The most important part of any pod vape is going to be the coils. The RPM160 comes with the 0.15ohm sub-ohm coils. I used 70/30 3mg Drip Fried Cream Cookie vape juice in the coil and found it is best around 80W. The taste is delicious and the draw is very warm. The huge vapor gets more and more flavorful as the mesh coil gets broken in. The quality of the cotton is great, the coil can last for a week at the higher wattage. I have nothing to complain about. The battery life depends on your 18650s, vaping at higher wattage will drain the battery faster. SMOK RPM160 Pod Mod Kit Review
The SMOK RPM160 is a versatile and powerful pod mod. It is powered by a dual 18650 battery and is paired with a 7.5ml large pod along with two 0.15ohm mesh coils. It is much larger than your regular pod vape but provides a comfortable hand feel. The flavor is intense and the vapor production is huge, which can compare with your normal sub-ohm tank.
The RPM160 is a good vape, but it’s not for everyone. I don’t recommend it to transitioning smokers. It is easy to use but provide a much powerful output. If you are an experienced DL vaper looking for an easy pod vape with no complex features, it did a great job at that.
