Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus Review: A Sub-Ohm Vaping? [2020 Update]

The Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus Vape Pen is the latest rendition of the original Ocra Solo. It is a pocket-friendly AIO kit that combines a 1200mAh battery with a 2ml tank, perfect for beginners, or transitioning smokers. The updated Orca Solo Plus resembles the look of its predecessor in aesthetic design while the battery capacity is increased by half. As well as an increase in power output the Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus comes with a sub-ohm mesh coil for a restrictive DTL vape. The 1.3ohm ceramic coil makes it across and provides a discreet MTL draw, which is perfect for quitting smoking.

Vaporesso boast a massive catalog of vape products and are more renowned for their mods such as the popular Gen 220W Mod, and Polar 220W Kit. They are also heavyweight when it comes to pushing out starter kits. Like any other AIO, the Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus should provide a portable, easy, and satisfying vaping experience when you don’t want a more complex and bulky box mod. Does it deliver? The pen-shaped Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus is available in black, blue, rainbow, and silver. It is very small, lightweight, and compact. Measuring at 123mm in height and mere 18mm in diameter, the Orca Solo Plus can slip into your pocket easily and is rather stealthy when vaping on the go. The hardened steel material with a brushed finish is sturdy and feels incredibly insignificant in the hand. The branding ‘Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus’ is engraved on the front of the battery. The weight balance is almost dead center, which is very impressive.

The cage-style top cap protects the glass tube. The four windows allow you to view the juice level easily. The black round mouthpiece is removable, which fits between your lips comfortably. You can also use your own drip tip if you want. After removing the top cap and the glass tube, you will see a gold-plated spring-loaded 510 connector and a very thick black rubber seal, which fits over the glass section. The AFC ring is placed between the battery part and the tank section. There are five very tiny airflow holes, which look tidy and neat. You can easily adjust the airflow, but it is obviously designed for MTL.

The raised fire button on the battery is tactile and responsive. The LED indicator is embedded around the clicky fire button. The USB charging port is on the side near the fire button at the same height. The single tiny hole on the center of the base acts as battery venting.

The Vaporesso Orca Solo Plus with a built-in 1200mAh battery can fire between 7W to 22W and has three different power modes. The battery life is better than most of the small AIO on the market, which gives you almost a full day of vaping before needing to recharge. There is only one button, so the operation on Orca Solo Plus is pretty simple. The tri-colored LED light will cycle through three colors when you turn on or turn off the device, which prompts the battery status (awake or asleep).

The coil options give you a little bit of control. You will get a different wattage from different coil resistances, which is just due to the ohm law. The Orca Solo Plus runs at 7W with the 1.3ohm CCELL coil, which is supposed to be a stealthy MTL vape and runs 22W with the 0.6ohm meshed coil for relatively restrictive DTL vape. You will also need to increase the airflow by rotating the AFC ring to get a richer flavor and a more massive cloud. To adjust the pre-set wattage, just press the fire button three times. The power output will change automatically according to the coil option.

• The airflow adjustment is very easy and smooth. Turn to the far right for maximum airflow; turn to the far left to close the airflow.

The tank is made of durable stainless steel with a bit of chrome plating on the doming. It protects the glass tube and comes with a removable 510 Delrin drip tip. The four tidy windows allow you to view the juice level. You can easily remove the steel tank with a slight tug.

The glass section is removable and fits onto the battery part, which is a bit disappointing as I was expecting the glass tube to screw in the top cap. The coil is also screwed inside the top section of the battery. To install or replace the coil, you have to remove the top cap and the glass tube.

• Refit the glass tube
• Add e-liquid into the glass section until full. Please don't overfill
• Refit the top cap. Please don’t over-tighten
• Wait at least 5min to get the coil fully soaked into the e-liquid

The Orca Solo Plus kit comes with two different coils - a 0.6ohm mesh rated for 16W to 22W and a 1.3ohm ceramic rated for 7W to 12W for the different vaping experience. Both coils work well and have little noise and zero turbulence.

The brand new 0.6ohm mesh is designed for vapers switching from MTL to DTL. The airflow intake is insufficient even with airflow holes fully open. You will get a very restrictive DTL draw. The flavor is superb and the vapor production is massive. But it may not satisfy those true DTL lovers. The 0.6ohm coil drains juice and battery faster, which can be expected for a sub-ohm coil.

The 1.3ohm ceramic delivers a satisfying MTL draw. The flavor is great. The vapor production is very small and discreet, which is perfect for stealthy vaping on the go. The battery life is much longer and I can almost enjoy a full day vape with moderate usage.

The Vaporesso Veco Solo Vape Pen is a pen-style AIO that suitable for your everyday or on-the-go vape. It is extremely lightweight, compact, and simple to use and becomes invisible in your pocket. The steel tank protects the glass tube and allows for viewing the juice level. the tri-color LED light indicates the battery level.

The two coils included in the kit provide a smooth and flavorful vape. The 1.3ohm coil delivers a superb flavor with the little vapor production. The 0.6ohm mesh coil produces a massive cloud but not as much as the traditional sub-ohm tank with much larger airflow intake. It may not for cloud chasers who love a very loose airy DTL draw, but a great choice for those making the transition from MTL to DTL.

If you love both MTL and restrictive DTL, I will recommend you to upgrade your original Orca Solo to the Orca Solo Plus as it is more versatile and powerful while maintaining the compact and ultra-portable design.
